Pillar three: Wellness and nutrition
Compass signs up to Government Responsibility Deal, championing healthy eating in the catering industry.
The Department of Health has announced a new Responsibility Deal which sees the Government working with businesses, trade associations and public interest groups to develop a partnership approach to public health.
As the only foodservice provider on the Government´s Public Health Responsibility Deal plenary group, Compass Group UK & Ireland is leading the way in introducing calorie labelling across the business and pledging to significantly reduce salt content and remove all artificial trans fats from the one million meals Compass serves to customers every day.
Compass has already rolled out nutritional information for its centrally-developed core range of hundreds of recipes across 2000 workplaces. By signing up to the Food Network pledges, part of the Government´s Public Health Responsibility Deal, Compass will take this further, working with its clients in areas such as business and industry, hospitals, colleges and universities, sports stadia and leisure venues to provide nutritional information, helping customers to make healthy choices.
"Health and wellbeing is at the heart of our business and we believe that caterers have an important role to play in helping and encouraging people to eat a healthy, balanced diet," said Ian Sarson, Group Managing Director, Compass Group UK & Ireland.
"The range and number of organisations signing up to the Responsibility Deal shows that there is a real appetite for everyone to work together to help people lead healthy, active lifestyles and I look forward to working in partnership with these organisations as we take this forward.
"We are leading the way in the foodservice sector through the provision of nutritional information. Our achievements to date and our role on the Public Health Responsibility Deal plenary group demonstrate our commitment to providing information that helps our customers maintain a balanced diet, and to ensuring that wellbeing remains a core priority for the business."
To enable Compass to meet the differing requirements of its customers and clients, information will continue to be provided in a way that is suited to their varied needs and to the dining environment.
As part of its role on the Public Health Responsibility Deal plenary group, Compass Group UK & Ireland is on the Food Network and the Health in the Workplace Network and has signed up to all of the collective pledges outlined by these Networks.
